The story begins with a sudden, devastating tragedy.
In a quiet, idyllic farm, golden sunlight pours into the barn where a gentle mother hen sits peacefully on her nest, incubating her soon-to-be chicks. But this perfect tranquility is shattered by a vicious attack. A wicked weasel slips into the coop, launching a brutal and merciless strike on the nesting mother.
Frantic clucks echo and feathers scatter as the mother hen tragically loses her life.
The newly hatched chicks witness this horrific scene unfold right before their tiny eyes. Trembling, they huddle together in a dark corner, their gazes filled with sheer terror, profound loneliness, and utter helplessness.
Yet, in this darkest of hours, a small hero emerges: PUGGY the dog.
He discovers these orphaned, fragile lives, his large eyes welling with deep compassion and tenderness. He approaches them gently, nudging each trembling chick with his wet nose as if to soothe their traumatized souls. Instead of walking away, he makes a heartwarming decision: he will become their new guardian.
From that day forward, PUGGY takes on the mantle of motherhood. Every morning, he wakes at the crack of dawn, trotting tirelessly around the farm to forage for the chicks. He uses his own body to shield them from the biting wind and cold rain, and gently barks to herd them safely back together. He crouches low to the ground, allowing the little ones to climb all over his back, nurturing them with the devotion of a true mother.
However, the ruthless weasel has not given up. One moonlit night, it slinks back out of the shadows, intent on finishing off the defenseless flock.
In a flash, PUGGY places himself squarely between the predator and his adopted babies. Without a single second of hesitation, he charges at the weasel, completely disregarding how much fiercer and more lethal the predator might be!
A desperate brawl breaks out on the grass, sending dirt and stray feathers flying into the night air. Fueled by an iron will and an unstoppable protective instinct, PUGGY finally manages to drive the weasel away. But the victory comes at a heavy cost. Covered in deep scratches and wounds, the brave little dog collapses to the ground in total exhaustion.
The chicks immediately rush to his side. They carry over leaves in their tiny beaks to shade PUGGY from the harsh sun, and snuggle their soft, downy bodies against his fur, communicating their boundless gratitude and love in the most silent, touching way.
As the days pass, nursed by the tender companionship and reverse-guardianship of his little flock, PUGGY gradually heals. Once battered and bruised, he rises to his paws once more, cementing his place as the farm’s most indispensable protector.
He is no longer just a kind-hearted dog. To this little flock of lives, he is their one and only “mother”—and their ultimate hero.
