In the previous chapter, PUGGY plunged into raging floodwaters to rescue a helpless hairless cat, only to be swept away by the merciless, churning currents.
The story resumes with PUGGY thrashing desperately in the violent flood, his life hanging by a thread. At this critical moment, a gentle white lop-eared rabbit appears on the muddy bank. With frantic urgency, the brave little rabbit reaches out with its front paws, struggling against the current to haul the exhausted dog out of the water and onto solid ground.
Soaking wet and overflowing with gratitude, PUGGY looks up at his savior. Through a poignant thought bubble, he shares his deepest, most driving desire: a memory of his beloved owner, the young girl. He yearns to go home. Understanding his silent plea perfectly, the rabbit gives a reassuring nod, as if to say, “Follow me.”
However, the very moment this heartwarming bond is forged, disaster strikes. A sinister-looking poacher, clad in rugged denim, bursts silently from the nearby underbrush. With a swift, ruthless swing of his net, he snares the terrified rabbit, shoving it into a cold iron cage before turning on his heel and vanishing into the wild.
Powerless to stop the sudden ambush, PUGGY can only watch his new friend be carried away. But the shock in his eyes quickly hardens into an unyielding, fierce resolve.
Tracking the poacher’s trail, PUGGY eventually arrives at a loud, chaotic street market. Weaving through the dense, bustling crowd, his eyes lock onto a heartbreaking sight: the familiar iron cage. Inside sits the lonely, helpless rabbit, a crude wooden tag hanging from the bars that simply reads: “$50”.
To save his friend, PUGGY embarks on a grueling journey to earn the ransom.
He scavenges the city streets for empty bottles, dragging a heavy burlap sack to the local recycling center to exchange for meager pocket change. He labors tirelessly at a dusty construction site—pushing heavy wheelbarrows, hauling bricks, and helping to lay mortar. He even finds work at a bustling street food cart, balancing trays and eagerly selling little cookies to earn tips from customers.
Coin by hard-earned coin, his relentless toil pays off. Covered in dust and sweat, PUGGY stands tall before the market vendor, sliding his pile of hard-earned change across the table to purchase the rabbit’s freedom. He throws open the iron door, and the rabbit leaps straight into his arms. Bathed in the warm, amber glow of the market’s twilight lanterns, the two friends share a tearful, tight embrace.
Yet, in a cruel, heartbreaking twist of fate, just a stone’s throw away in that exact same market, PUGGY‘s owner—the young girl—is frantically taping up “Lost Dog: PUGGY” posters, anxiously pleading with passing strangers for any information. Tragedy and timing conspire against them; they brush past each other in the chaotic crowd, the girl entirely unaware that the brave little puppy she so desperately seeks is right around the corner.
This is a story of profound gratitude, unwavering perseverance, and faith. Faced with a destiny that repeatedly tears away what he loves, PUGGY chooses to fight back with action to reclaim hope. For the sake of a friend, he is willing to endure absolutely anything.
