This story begins with a sudden disaster in the sky.
A passenger plane was flying over the ocean when a piercing alarm blared through the cabin, and thick smoke began pouring from one of the engines. People screamed in panic, oxygen masks dropped from above, and the air was filled with fear and despair.
Amid the chaos, a young woman held her little dog tightly in her arms—PUGGY.
With one arm protecting him and the other gripping her seat, she stared ahead in terror as fire from outside the window flickered across her face. The aircraft shook violently, luggage tumbled from the overhead bins, and then came an explosion.
In that instant, PUGGY was suddenly thrown out through the cabin door, his tiny body spinning helplessly through the air as he let out weak cries of fear.
But by some miracle, the small parachute on his back opened automatically. With tears in his eyes, he drifted slowly down through the night and firelight, while behind him, the plane exploded into fragments across the sky and plunged into the endless sea.
PUGGY hit the ocean, and the water was freezing cold. He struggled for a few moments, then slowly began to sink, his consciousness fading.
Just as the sea was about to swallow him, a gentle figure appeared.
A little seal swam up from the depths and found the unconscious dog. It nudged PUGGY’s body, then carefully lifted him onto its back and fought its way back to the surface.
At last, they reached a quiet beach. Under the cover of night, PUGGY woke up and realized he was all alone. Tears immediately began streaming down his face. The seal stayed beside him, gently patting him with its flipper, rubbing its face against his fur, and softly licking away the tears at the corners of his eyes.
From that day on, the seal became PUGGY’s only source of comfort.
At night, they sat beside a campfire. The seal would roast freshly caught fish over the fire with branches and bring it to him. PUGGY lowered his head and ate, but tears still lingered in his eyes. The seal said nothing. It simply stayed close beside him, like a silent member of the family.
As the days passed, PUGGY would still sit by the shore, quietly gazing out at the distant sea. And the seal would always appear at just the right moment, lying beside him, shielding him from the wind with its body and easing his grief with its companionship.
Over the course of that year, they became each other’s closest family.
Until one day, after the tide had risen and receded, the sea washed a familiar piece of metal onto the sand.
PUGGY walked over. It was part of the plane wreckage.
Step by step, he moved closer, passing broken seats and shattered pieces of luggage. Then, in the collapsed corner of the ruined cabin, he stopped.
There, he found his owner.
Nothing remained of her but bones, yet her arms were still frozen in one final gesture—tightly holding a photograph. In the photo was PUGGY.
He did not cry out. He simply lay quietly beside her, eyes lowered, while tears fell soundlessly into the sand.
Then, a familiar figure appeared behind him.
It was the seal.
As always, it stood there in silence, watching him without moving.
But this time, its body was half-transparent, as though it were made of light. It gave a faint smile and gently tilted its head.
Only then did the truth become clear: during that entire year, the seal that had stayed with him, cared for him, and helped him through his sorrow had already quietly passed away as well.
In the final scene, PUGGY holds a small shovel in his front paws and slowly digs a grave in the sand.
Before long, a cross made of seashells stands planted in the beach, engraved with the seal’s name—MOMO.
At dusk, PUGGY sits in front of the grave, unmoving as the wind stirs his fur.
And beside him, the seal’s figure appears once again. Just like before, it sits there quietly, as if nothing has changed at all.
In this world, there are some friends who, even after they are gone, never truly leave.
